Transfer Options from Mykonos Airport to Mykonos Town
Unlike other Greek islands, Mykonos doesn’t have many villages and settlements. It is a small island, after all. Thus, the chances are that your accommodation will be found at the island’s capital, most commonly known as Chora. If this is the case, you’ll have several transfer options from Mykonos International Airport (JMK) to Mykonos Town, ranging from taxis and public buses to private airport transfers and car rentals.
| Option | Price (€) | Price ($) | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi | 17€ | 17$ | 10 min |
| Bus | 1.80€ | 1.80$ | 15–20 min |
Mykonos Airport to Mykonos Town by Taxi
Mykonos airport taxis are the fastest and most comfortable way to reach Chora. Taxi services operate during airport hours (approximately 07:00 am–01:00 am in summer and 10:00 am–07:00 pm during the rest of the year). However, the number of available taxis is limited and often insufficient during peak season. As a result, waiting times at the taxi rank — located just outside the terminal, across the road — can be long, and passengers are sometimes asked to share rides.
Despite this, taxi services remain reliable and efficient. Drivers usually speak English and offer door-to-door service. The metered fare from Mykonos Airport to Mykonos Town is around 17€/17$, including the mandatory airport surcharge (2.85€). The journey takes approximately 10 minutes under normal traffic conditions.
Extra charges may apply:
- Night fare (00:00 am – 05:00 am): approx. 22€/22$
- Luggage over 10kg: 0.40€/0.40$ per item
Payments are usually made in cash, as many taxis are not equipped with POS machines. Tipping is optional.
Our Tip: Even if you share a taxi, the fare is not split. If possible, find other travelers heading to the same destination and agree to ride together.

Mykonos Airport to Mykonos Town by Bus
Public transportation from Mykonos Airport is limited to KTEL buses. The bus stop is located just outside the terminal building. Buses operate toward Fabrika Station (south of Chora) and, less frequently, toward the New Port.
During the high tourist season, buses usually run every 30–60 minutes between 08:15 am and 10:15 pm, reaching Fabrika in about 15–20 minutes. Routes to the New Port operate less frequently (approximately every 1.5 hours). In winter, services are reduced and usually run hourly from 09:15 am to 06:15 pm.
A one-way ticket costs 1.80€/1.80$ and is purchased directly from the driver. Payments are cash only, preferably with small bills. Please note that a ticket does not guarantee a seat, and standing may be required during busy periods.
Our Tip 1: Bus schedules change frequently and without notice. Always check the current timetable before relying on the bus.
Our Tip 2: Delays are common, especially during peak season.
