General Airport Information

Santorini Airport is the international aviation hub serving the popular island. Located just 5km / 3.1 miles from the island’s “Chora” – Fira – JTR Airport handles both domestic routes and international flights. However, it mainly serves charter flights arriving at the Cyclades island of Santorini, especially during the high tourist season, from late spring to early autumn.

Thira Airport – as it is also called – is a small airfield. Still, it has recently been renovated. As a result, although it offers only basic services and facilities, they are efficient, well-organized, and fully sufficient for passenger needs.

Terminals

Santorini Airport is a minor airport and therefore has only one small terminal building. Nevertheless, the terminal has been completely refurbished. Even though it provides only minimal services, they are modern, functional, and up to date, ensuring a smooth passenger experience.

Hotels

Santorini isn’t a large island. Thus, the distances between different regions are relatively short, although travel times may be longer than expected due to the island’s road network in certain areas. When choosing accommodation in Santorini, you can either stay at one of the hotels near Thira Airport or explore options across the island, still remaining within a 10–20-minute drive from JTR Airport.

Layover at the Airport

Santorini Airport may not be the ideal place for a long layover, as it offers only basic amenities. Still, most of the island’s attractions are located within a 10–20-minute drive from the airport. Are you facing a long layover at Santorini Airport? All the better! Take advantage of the opportunity and go explore the unique beauty of Santorini.
