If Fira is not your stop, Oia is the next most common destination from Santorini Airport (JTR), famous for its sunsets at the northern tip of the island. From the airport you reach Oia by taxi, a private transfer, a rental car, or the public KTEL bus, which is cheapest but runs through Fira with a change.
| Option | Price (one way) | Journey time | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| KTEL bus (via Fira) | €4.40 | 70–80 min | Lowest cost |
| Taxi | €32–40 (day) | ~25 min | Door to door on arrival |
| Private transfer | Fixed, pre-booked | ~25 min | No change, meet and greet |
| Car rental | From the rental desk | ~25 min | Exploring the island |
Santorini Airport to Oia by taxi
The silver-grey Santorini taxis wait at the rank just outside the terminal exit during airport hours. They cover the 17 km to Oia in about 25 minutes, though summer traffic stretches both the time and the price. With only around 40 taxis on the island, the rank can run dry and waits of up to 30 minutes are common at peak arrivals, so sharing with others heading to Oia is normal.
Santorini taxis carry a meter, but on the airport run the fare works as a fixed price, so agree it with the driver before you set off. As a guide, expect about €32–40 in the daytime and €39–45 at night between midnight and 05:00, including the €4 airport surcharge; in peak season fares sit at the higher end. Add €0.40 for each piece of luggage over 10 kg.
Our tips:
- Agree the total fare, including luggage, before the car moves.
- Carry small bills in cash; most drivers do not take cards.
- If the queue is long, share the ride and split the fare with other Oia-bound travellers.
Santorini Airport to Oia by bus
The public KTEL bus is the cheapest way to Oia, but it is not direct. Airport buses run only to Fira, where you change for Oia. The airport-to-Fira leg takes about 15–20 minutes; from Fira, buses to Oia leave every 30–90 minutes between roughly 06:50 and 21:20, stopping at Imerovigli on the way. See our airport bus guide for the airport timetable and our airport to Fira guide for that first leg.
In summer the whole trip usually takes 70–80 minutes including the wait in Fira; off season, with fewer buses, it can stretch to 2.5–3 hours. You buy two separate tickets in cash from the driver: €2.20 for the airport-to-Fira bus and another €2.20 from Fira to Oia, €4.40 in total in 2026. Schedules change without notice, so check the current times on ktel-santorini.gr.
Our tips:
- The buses are air-conditioned with luggage space, but not wheelchair accessible.
- With a late flight, a taxi or private transfer avoids missing the last connection in Fira.
Car rental from Santorini Airport to Oia
Renting a car at the airport suits travellers who want to explore beyond Oia. Turn left out of the airport, take the right turn after about 500 metres, continue roughly 15 km, then turn right onto the Firon–Oias provincial road and follow the signs to Oia. The drive takes around 25 minutes in normal traffic.
Parking in Oia is mostly free street parking, but spaces are scarce in high season. It is easier to park on the edge of the village and walk in.
Private airport transfers from Santorini Airport to Oia
To skip the bus change, the taxi queue and any waiting, a private transfer is the most predictable choice. You get a fixed price, a driver meeting you on arrival, and a direct door-to-door ride from JTR straight to your hotel in Oia. Booking a Santorini airport transfer in advance locks in the price before you land. Compare licensed drivers and lock in a set fare on GetTransfer.com.
