The quickest way from Santorini Airport (JTR) to Oia is a taxi or a pre-booked transfer: about 25 minutes and €32–40 by day for the roughly 18 km trip to the island's northern tip. The cheapest way is the KTEL public bus at €4.40, but it runs via Fira with a change and takes 70–80 minutes in summer. There is no direct airport-to-Oia bus.
Oia sits at the far north of Santorini, so it is the longest of the common airport transfers and the trickiest for luggage once you reach the caldera edge. Here is how the four options compare in 2026.

Santorini Airport to Oia by taxi
The silver-grey Santorini airport taxis wait at the rank just outside the terminal exit during airport opening hours. They cover the 18 km to Oia in about 25 minutes, though the late-afternoon build-up of sunset traffic on the Fira–Oia road stretches both the journey time and, at peak, the wait for a cab.
With only around 40 taxis on the whole island, and an Oia run tying up a driver for close to an hour there and back, the rank often empties at busy arrival times. Waits of 20–40 minutes are common in July and August, so if the line is long it is normal to share with other Oia-bound passengers and split the fare.
Santorini taxis carry a meter, but on the airport run the fare works as a fixed price, so agree it with the driver before you set off. As a guide, expect about €32–40 in the daytime and €39–45 at night between midnight and 05:00, including the €4 airport pick-up surcharge; in peak season fares sit at the higher end. Add about €0.40 for each piece of luggage over 10 kg.

Santorini Airport to Oia by bus
The public KTEL bus is the cheapest way to Oia, but it is not direct: airport buses run only to Fira, where you change for the Oia bus. The airport-to-Fira leg takes about 15–20 minutes; from Fira's central station, buses to Oia leave every 30–90 minutes between roughly 06:50 and 21:20, stopping at Firostefani and Imerovigli along the caldera before Oia.
In summer the whole trip usually takes 70–80 minutes including the wait in Fira; off season, with fewer departures, it can stretch to 2.5–3 hours. You pay the conductor in cash on board and buy two separate tickets: €2.20 for the airport-to-Fira bus and another €2.20 from Fira to Oia, €4.40 in total in 2026. There is no card payment and no need for exact change, though small notes are quicker. Large cases go in the hold under the bus and small bags stay with you, at no extra charge. Private airport transfers from Santorini Airport to Oia

Car rental from Santorini Airport to Oia
Renting a car at the airport suits travellers who want to explore beyond Oia. Turn left out of the airport, take the right turn after about 500 metres, continue roughly 15 km, then join the Firon–Oias provincial road and follow the signs into Oia. Parking in Oia is mostly free street parking, but spaces are very scarce in high season and the centre is pedestrian-only. It is easier to use the car park at the village entrance and walk in.
Arriving in Oia: caldera hotels, steps and luggage
Oia is built along the cliff edge, and many of its hotels sit on the caldera side with no road access to the door. Vehicles, including taxis and transfers, drop you at the main road, the bus terminal or the top of the village, and you continue on foot down stepped, pedestrian-only lanes. If your hotel is on the caldera rim, expect several flights of steps and cobbles that wheeled cases will not roll over.
Ask your property in advance whether it offers a porter or luggage service, as some cliffside walkways involve a long climb down and back up. Travelling light, or using a private transfer that drops you as close as vehicles are allowed, saves the most effort. From Oia, the steps down to Ammoudi Bay are a separate walk, or a short taxi hop, for the fish tavernas and boat trips.
