Santorini's airport taxis are the fastest way from the terminal to your hotel: door to door, no luggage to haul onto a bus, no change in Fira. The catch is supply. The island runs only around 40 licensed taxis, so at peak summer arrivals the rank can empty out and you may wait, or share a cab with others heading your way.
Where to find the taxi rank at JTR
The taxi rank is directly outside the terminal exit. Collect your bags, walk out of the Arrivals hall, and the grey-and-silver taxis line up in front of you, opposite the KTEL bus stop. Expect a queue at peak times; with only around 40 cabs island-wide, waits of 30–45 minutes are common when several flights land together.
Santorini Airport taxi fares
Santorini taxis carry a meter, but on the airport run the fare works as a fixed price, so agree it with the driver before you set off rather than relying on the meter. A daytime ride to Fira runs about €20–35, including the €4 airport pick-up surcharge, rising to €30–45 at night between midnight and 05:00. Add €0.40 for each piece of luggage over 10 kg. In peak season, expect the higher end of every range.
To show where the money goes, a daytime fare to Fira is roughly €16–31 for the ride itself, plus the €4 airport surcharge, plus about €0.40 for each large bag. There is no separate booking fee at the rank, and the price is per car, not per person, so four passengers sharing pay the same as one.
Taxi fares to popular destinations
Indicative one-way fares from Santorini Airport, day and night. Treat them as a guide and confirm before you go, as they are agreed prices rather than strict meter readings.

Booking a taxi ahead vs the rank
If the rank is empty when you walk out, take it, since the ride to Fira is barely 15 minutes. If a queue has already formed, a car you booked in advance almost always reaches your hotel first. A pre-booked transfer gives you a fixed price and a driver waiting with your name on arrival, with no time lost in the line. You can compare drivers and lock in a fixed fare before you land through GetTransfer.com; we point you to operators rather than reselling rides.
Arriving late at night or on an early flight
Taxis do meet late flights, but the small fleet thins out after midnight, and one delayed arrival can clear the rank before you reach it. If you land after the last KTEL bus, which runs until roughly 22:00 in summer, and no cab is waiting, your realistic options are a booking by phone, which adds a pick-up fee and some wait, or a transfer arranged in advance. For any flight landing after midnight or before dawn, book the car ahead: it is the surest way to have a driver there, and it fixes the night fare instead of leaving it open. Our night arrival guide covers what else stays open at JTR after dark.
Our tips:
- Agree the total fare, including any luggage charge, before the car moves.
- Carry small bills in cash; most drivers do not take cards.
- Have your hotel address written down, as it saves confusion on arrival.
- Taxis carry no child seats; bring your own if you need one.
- In high season, book ahead for arrivals after 22:00, when the rank empties fastest.
